FAQs about hotels in Southampton

Historic Port of Walls

A departure point for Isle of Wight ferries and grand cruise liners including the Queen Mary 2, Southampton is understandably centered around its port. But even if you’re passing through, the city has more than enough to make you want to stay awhile. The Hythe Ferry from the port passes Netley, site of a ruined abbey, and ends at Hythe Pier, home to the world’s oldest pier train.

There is much older history in the city center where the 15th-century city walls are amongs the most complete in England. Also remaining is the medieval Bargate gatehouse.

Just behind is the Bargate Shopping Center, while main street stores in the city center and West Quay are other Southampton shopping choices. As for entertainment, the city has great theaters, and Oxford Street has the best bars and restaurants. All are easily reached from the apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Southampton available on Booking.com.

There is also a surprising amount of green space in the city and its central parks is a historic site. Slightly further out is Southampton Common, whose Urban Wildlife Centre is worth a visit.

If you’re flying out of Southampton Airport, don’t leave without having visited the Maritime Museum or Archaeology Museum, both detailing the history of this long-established city.

    We stayed in 003.

We stayed in 003. Very spacious but this is what facilities I should have had. The spacious family room features a tea and coffee maker and a seating area, as well as a private bathroom boasting a bath. The well-equipped kitchen has a refrigerator, kitchenware, a microwave and a toaster. This family room features a sofa, heating and a flat-screen TV. The unit has 2 beds. All we got was the tea & coffee making facilities. Table in there but nothing else. Rooms spacious but found lounge & beds very uncomfortable. Thankfully only stayed the one night. Quiet & grounds lovely.

The town centre has loads of shops and a large indoor shopping centre. There are several parks and lots of green space available. There was a huge choice of cafes, restaurants and pubs for all price brackets. We went to the 1865 club which holds lots of musical events. We were a bit concerned doing the 30 minute walk through the parks when the event finnished, however we saw at least 3 separate groups of police walking around the town and parks so felt very safe.

We had a really good stay with several nice meals, Found the people very pleasant and helpful. Really good shopping centres. Town was not too big and by the sea with several parks. There was something for all ages. Had all the major entertainments like cinema and ten pin bowling. Lovely museum and art gallery - well worth a visit.

Southampton is a little under-rated as an historic town.

Southampton is a little under-rated as an historic town. The walls are virtually complete on one side, there is one of England's best town gates and there are several old buildings to visit. The Art Gallery is just about the best south of London and the Sea City Museum is well worth a visit- especially for the Titanic story.

We arrived a little before the 3pm check-in time but our room was available straight away. I had requested a quiet room if possible because my child is on the autistic spectrum and we were given a room in a very quiet part of the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The hotel is in a convenient location for the city centre on the edge of the old town. I would definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers and would stay there if I was visiting Southampton again.

Fantastic Location as I was playing a gig at the 1865 which was a short enough walk from the hotel to enable me to get myself and gear there on foot. The bedroom was larger than I expected and I had a choice of not one, but two double beds to sleep in. The bed was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, a very nice pot of coffee for one, and freshly made toast was a lovely touch, and the breakfast buffet was well stocked and tasty.

If possible I want refund as this was a special trip from London to Southampton but the hotel rooms was not clean, there was hairs all over the beds and on carpets. We couldn't use the swimming pools as it was always full had to stay in room most of the time as there.was nothing else to do with children. Once we managed to get on to the pool but there was used nappies and dirty towels on floor couldn't stay there long

Southampton Harbour hotel, like the hotels in its chain was just brilliant but with the added character and the feeling of being on the water. the staff couldn’t do anything more for us. The room was spacious and clean, and the bed was phenomenal. we ate and drank in HarBar on 6th in the evening which had a great atmosphere. Then breakfast in the morning was fantastic, with a great varied menu!
