We absolutely loved the cooler temperatures. Be prepared for a unique experience…the shower had ornate ceiling with plants growing inside and up above. Breakfast was served “family style” and the owner/chef engaged with his guests. The beds were very comfortable and everything was clean. Surrounded by lush forest!

The grounds of the lodge are fabulous. There is plenty to explore, with an orchid garden and the Ceiba Tree overlooking the property. The breakfast was really nicely done, with a fabulous set-up of the flowers hanging down from the roof of the place. Also overlooking the Lake Arenal, and a feeding station for birds. Fresh coffee brewed the original way at the table. We also got our laundry done by the hosts, which was really handy, great value and done with more care than dedicated businesses for it. We paid extra for the room with a terrace, and it was worth that for the view and sitting out.

The room was spacious and nice. It is located in between a couple of amazing sightseeing spots and is great to use as a base camp. Kees, the owner, is really helpful and friendly. Even before the trip he helped us a lot with putting our trip together. And when a sloth was in the yard of the hotel, he came to show us.

Hotel Puerto San Luis has an outdoor swimming pool, garden, a restaurant and bar in Tilarán.

The rooms are super quiet and private located within a very large estate which was formerly a farm. They are comfortable and have everything you need. There is even a small cooker and some kitchenware if you want to prepare your own meals. You have access to the entire estate which includes large parts of pristine jungle to hike through on well maintained paths, a river, fields with horses, waterfalls for swimming and little mountains. The views of the volcano are stunning. There is also a labyrinth and various spaces to meditate or do yoga or get massages. The owners are very friendly and assist with everything including great tips of where to eat and what to do in the area. You can also spend a lot of time just at the property as it is so large and there is a lot on it to discover and relax. The place is very new and I am looking forward to see how it will evolve further. Definitely a place I want to return to.

We saw sloths in the garden, the owners are very kind and it’s a great location to dotubing and going to the national park.

The view from the rooms is a spectacular one of Arenal Volcano and the amazing flora in the area. The staff was so, so friendly and helpful, the rooms were very large and clean, the food was good - breakfast in particular - and we loved every minute there.
