Rooms were as depicted in photos, and recently renovated in an industrial style, complete with elevators for luggage and soon to be available co-working spaces. Internet was solid. There are direct views of the ocean waves from the public areas and to-be-opened coffee shop. This is a super unique lodging, set up in a historical military-run "tea room" to provide services to troops and officers. The shared bunks were where the soldiers received services, and the individual rooms were for officers to visit their favorite ladies. They've preserved the separate bathhouse for women of the tea rooms after a day of work. There are also exhibits throughout the buildings -- stories of a soldier's first time, or of the complicated relationships that resulted from these rendezvous, or of the women who were working here. The entire first floor of the officers' rooms (individual bedrooms) have been preserved more or less as is, with original pink walls from when the rooms were used for different purposes, and enhanced with Matsu Biennial exhibits (unfortunately only in Chinese.) Really meaningful and unique lodging that highlights the complex military & civilian history of the islands during the Chinese Civil War.
