We absolutely loved our stay here The dinner/breakfast served is amazing, a lot of options even for non-vegetarians The place felt very clean and well taken care of. We felt welcome even though it feels like a place mainly for tourists, we would still definitely recommend the experience even for one night to see the morning ceremony The room is amazing, very spacious and with great views to the garden and temple, offers a lot of amenities, welcome tea and snack, yakata, toothrbrush, hair comb etc.

It was such an amazing, unique experience. The monks are most welcoming and accommodating. Ryokan style rooms with futons, which can be a bit hard, as expected (part of the experience). The place looks incredible, still attains so much history and ancient culture within its walls. It was incredible to be a part of that for a bit and attending the ceremonies was the highlight of our stay.

Perfect stay. The monks are super friendly even if they don’t speak english. The food is good and very traditional and the rooms are great. Spacious tatami style, loved it so much I regret not staying longer. They even give you a flashlight if you want to explore at night. The placement is perfectly fine.

The location is close to everything. Highly recommend the evening tour of the cemetery!! One of the monks took us around, told us all about the cemetery and it’s history and some basics of Japanese Buddhist beliefs and legends. It was a highlight of my entire Japan trip. It was great to experience the morning prayer ceremony also. We were so grateful to be welcomed and get to see a small part of life for the people living at yochi in. The food was simple but lovely and the futon was surprisingly comfortable. There is a convenience store very close by which was great 😊

I spent a night at this temple in mid-January. It was unique. The atmosphere, the architecture, the food, the possibility to participate in goma ritual and the morning prayer. It was cold in the corridors and the temple rooms, but that is normal in those old and traditional Japanese structures. The oil heater in the room did a good job. But the highlight to warm up is the bath! It's just wonderful - a traditional Japanese bath with a wooden tub. What was also very special, was to be served dinner in a room of my own (I was travelling alone). The temple is located right beside the entrance to the Okunoin cemetery - so a bit off the centre of Koyasan, but the perfect place, if you look for tranquility. This temple is also special, because it has a really really long history, and it's architecture is mirroring the architecture of Koyasan's main temple.

What a fantastic experience to stay at a home away from home. The hosts were very welcoming and accommodating since we wanted our family to be together in one place. They also explained the highlights of Koyasan and we highly recommend Tommy guest house due to the warmth of the hosts, the cleanliness of the accommodation and the delicious breakfast that is homemade especially the tomato salad and the carrot cake. Thank you for baking our stay so special 😊

Beautiful shukubo in Koyasan. The temple is across from the Konpon Daito Pagoda, easy to reach from the bus stop. The breakfast and dinner were very nice and delicious. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The facilities were spotless and really clean. Our room had a view of the garden which made it feel very calm and peaceful. This property offers a unique experience, staying at a Buddhist Temple. The half board inclusion is Japanese vegan food, reflective of what the priest and monks eat every day. It was well prepared and enjoyable.Although they don’t consume alcohol it can be purchased at a reasonable price during dinner. The spacious accommodation is operated by trainee monks who were very friendly and make us feel most welcome.

I like the simple, no frills needed, temple accommodations. The monk that met me was friendly, easy to communicate with, and I found the other guests to be respectful and friendly for the stay (shared toilets and bathing rooms). I enjoyed the morning prayers, and I feel good about staying here. I will come again. Arigato.
