Beautiful area where you can get to everything simply by driving. Shipwreck hut in Araroa. Aorangi fish / chips. Palace burgers. Rarotonga bakery. Would highly recommend @Tumutours across the road for an authentic cultural experience, combined with delicious food and entertainment.Guest review byTuiNew Zealand - 10.0

Had a great time, I worked when there was no wind and went kite boarding when there was. The beaches there are beautiful with three different locations for kiting and a whole island if your not. for kiting, depending on wind direction, any one of them is an awesome place to kite. If you don't kite and you just want an awesome holiday near a beautiful beach, I couldn't recommend it more. Other islands within the Cook Islands offer great options, but cost more. If budget is an issue, then there is plenty to do on Raro and you will still experience the beauty of the tropical islands.Guest review byJasonAustralia - 10.0

Chilled place to really unwind , get married, pefect for a water sports enthusiast, went fishing on a charter & caught a yellow fin tuna, went diving/snorkeling with turtles and tropical fish, night markets food selection was vast and well priced.Guest review byDouglasIndonesia - 8.0
This is a good area, it's not to busy with tourist.
This is a good area, it's not to busy with tourist. You might feel your left out from all the fun places. But if you have your own transport or you don't mind using the public transport then your not far from anything at all. Your on the right side of the island for the sunset, go next door and have a drink at the resort bar on the beach while the sun sets in front of you.Guest review byMiro - 10.0

The people, beaches, lots of activities all day long, groceries to be honest, its not as expensive as Ive seen on Facebook. Considering the cooks has to ship or freight their cargo across and the mark up was not that bad, however I'm only talking about the two of us travelling, it may be for big families. Otherwise looking forward to our next trip next yearGuest review byMalcolm & TevaiNew Zealand - 10.0

My partner and I personally feel that Arorangi is better than the Muri area. The roads are a bit rougher and less maintained, but the lagoon and snorkelling is by far superior! We loved hanging out at the Aroa Marine Reserve which is by The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Spa. We swam with turtles almost every day - they just cruise past you. PLEASE DO NOT touch the turtles and respect their space - we always stayed at least an arms length from them or further away. I was sad to leave Rarotonga, we were there for 11 nights and it was just right. Not too long, not too short. The water seems way saltier than NZ water. The water quality is great and so clear in some places. The temperature of the water - WOW!!! Pretty warm and it was amazingly pleasant to swim in there. We went middle of March and it was perfect. Please never forget to apply reef-friendly sunblock even on your face as the UV rays can reflect on your face in the water. I burnt my face the first day I went snorkelling and the back of my legs - I learnt fast. The sun is not as harsh as the NZ sun though.Guest review byLee-Ann VHNew Zealand - 8.0

Avarua is pretty small with a Mall and few shops, supermarket, pharmacy, hardware stores etc. lots of take away and restaurant and a bit of night life, quiet, little traffic, nice people. Prices for clothing and souvenirs are high, I did not buy anything... The Saturday market is quite big with produce, clothing, etc. In Rarotonga on Sunday everything is closed (you cannot buy alcohol) although you can get take away and there are minimarkets open 24 hours ! Also hotels restaurants are open. It is cheaper to eat out compare to buy food and cook in. Food is good, wine prices acceptable. Not a big selection of food thou depending on the ships who bring the food in. It is a small island you must remember.Guest review byNelumNew Zealand - 10.0
The weather was not warm enough for swimming and snorkeling...
The weather was not warm enough for swimming and snorkeling every day (which we had hoped for) as the lagoon is very beautiful. Thankfully we had no rain so we walked a few of the very beautiful (but hard) walks on the island. The groceries on the island are very expensive but the restaurant prices are on par with Sydney prices so we ate out every night although we booked self contained accommodation. The restaurants are excellent and most have beautiful views. Read reviews on Tripadvisor. There is a bus service on the island but for convenience and to save time we hired a car. People are really lovely and the day trip to Aitutaki an absolute must! Book that one early. A week was just right.Guest review byclogs6542Australia
