As I have said in my comments, you have to visit a restaurant/s with live music ( generally Fridays and Saturdays only ) . However, if you plan to do this, you have to make a reservation a week or more before the date. So, make a reservation on the phones of the restaurants at the internet sites. Look for the top restaurants in NIS. Otherwise, everything is full booked. Prices are more than affordable. NIS is not exactly a vegan / vegetarian friendly city. Here is a joke, that explains this. "Two vegetarians enter a restaurant in NIS. They ask the waiter, what he would recomend for vegetarians. Call a taxi, replied the waiter."
We loved Nis. One of the things that we particularly enjoyed was the food. There are lots of excellent restaurants around where you can buy a typical Serbian barbecue. I would particularly recommend a restaurant called 'Izvor' and the 'Izvorski complet' - this includes a selection of meats and cheeses presented in its own unique way. We managed to do quite a bit of sight seeing including the Fortress, local parks, Bubanj, Cegar and an archaeological site which was a summer residence of Constantin the Great. In addition to this there is a great shopping mall called 'Delta'.
A very lively city, with both history and spirit, lots of greenery and a beautiful riverside. Food is wonderful, and people are very friendly. There are also numerous options for day trips away from the city.
it is a beautiful, quiet, laid-back, nice, and kind of underrated city. It is a feeling like experiencing 80's Yugoslavia. A very safe and very social place in the same time. Compared with Belgrade and Novi Sad ,niş is a lot cheaper for all goods
An absolute must-visit! A charming city bursting with history, lively nightlife, great shopping, and delicious food. Whether you’re wandering through the old sites or soaking up the local vibe, there’s always something to enjoy. Just go — you’ll love it!
We loved the city and weren't expecting to. We were planning on a layover before we continue to Sofia but when we saw the prices of rooms in the city we figured we might as well stay another night, and that was an excellent decision. The food here is great and very affordable - visit the local kafanas. Public transportation within the city has recently been made free - take the bus to the archeological site of the roman complex of Mediana. The fortress at the heart of the city was a pleasant surprise. We also appreciated the concentration camp museum which is very tastefully done. Visit the flea market! It's bigger than we expected and the best kind of messy that a flea market should be. As tourists, none of the sellers tried to cheat us and haggling was easy. Local exchange offices change euro at a very favorable rate and on the whole service in the city was pleasant. We will be back :)
