BelgiumAt first sight, the house looks beautiful – it’s spacious and has plenty of natural light. However, I would definitely NOT recommend staying here.
First of all, we thought the house would be entirely for us, without a shared kitchen or bathroom. Later, when the host contacted us, it turned out to be a shared accommodation with four different rooms. Luckily, we ended up being the only guests that night, so no one else was staying there. Still, we had absolutely no idea it was a shared property, as this was not mentioned anywhere in the listing description.
Secondly, the house was extremely dirty. There were dead insects all over the floor and spiders hanging from the walls and ceilings. Half of the lights didn’t work, and the lock on our bedroom door was broken (which would be very unsafe if other people were staying there, as anyone could just walk into your room). The shower drained very poorly, the dishwasher wasn’t emptied, and there were still dirty pots left in the cupboards. I honestly didn’t feel safe in the house and did not trust the bed linens provided…
The host himself was very friendly and mentioned beforehand that if we wanted extra cleaning services, we should let him know. However, we believe that a basic level of cleanliness and hygiene should be guaranteed in any accommodation, and not something guests should have to request.
