VIRTA Guesthouse is great if you prefer the comfort of having your own place while visiting Sandakan. We enjoyed all the space we had and the cozy/functional outside area where we were able to cook some meals. Places like the Orangutan Sanctuary and Rainforest Discovery Center are about a 20 minute drive from the house. It is pretty easy & affordable to use Grab (Malaysia's Uber) to get back and forth, though having a car would be more comfortable. The host is also very responsive and friendly.

This new condo is located on a quiet hill, and is only 2-3 km to the town centre. Safety is at its highest measure. Facilities are quite complete. The host Connie is very attentive and patiently guiding us via Whatsapp when we are still heading up to the hostel.

The staff were genuinely hospitable. The owner lady was like my Mom but kinder :) It was a pleasure to chat with them. The room was clean and well-organized, with AC and a fan. We had no problems with the Internet. The location is walking distance from the Orangutans and Sun Bears and the Rainforest Center.
