Laylaa was on her own in charge for our first day and couldn't have been more helpful, attentive and pleasant. Her pre arrival information was excellent. The dinners and breakfasts prepared by Patricia were excellent. The trails are superb in so much as there are several to suit all levels of ability and fitness, however all encompass the most stunning views of the surrounding Swartberg mountains.

Location is very convenient as it's pretty much walking distance (if you want to brave the heat) from the lovely Station pub and De Kranz winery and the other wineries. Bed was comfortable. There was a coffee machine in the room and the host provided complimentary bottled drinking water as the tap water is not drinkable. Lovely towels. Hot water worked well in our shower. Breakfast was really good - fruit/muesli yoghurt, followed by pancakes and then a cooked breakfast which was very well executed. There was private parking inside the property behind an electric gate and suitable for high/overlanding vehicles too. There is no backup power during loadshedding but portable lights are provided in the room. There are mesh in front of the windows to keep mozzies out. Host was welcoming and informative about the area.

Beautiful room, really well decorated with artwork, well spaced out and nice touches. One of the best sleeps we had during our trip. Hosts were welcoming and brought us an umbrella in case we needed as was raining hard. In the morning they had left out a flask of hot water for tea and coffee because there had been a power outage. Would not stay anywhere else in the area but here again. We were not expecting it to be this good as had just booked a few hours before when realising it was getting late and we were not going to make it to next town - so glad we did.

A recently renovated guest house located in Calitzdorp, Karoo Nest - Calitzdorp features a garden. There is a private entrance at the guest house for the convenience of those who stay.

It is easy to give a good review when things go perfectly, but it is when things don't go smoothly and the property owner makes an exceptional effort to put things right, that reviews really matter. I turned up to my booking to find the property unattended. Short of time, I booked somewhere else. Booking.com doesn't allow immediate cancellation, even though it is obvious that no one needs two different stays on the same night! The owner was very communicative and understanding and worked hard to help process the refund. To me, this is the mark of an exceptional and responsible property owner. Situated on the oldest working Ostrich farm in the Cape Colony, Rietfontein Ostrich Palace was established in 1897. It features private ostrich tours, a curio shop and outdoor swimming pool.

If your travelling the R62 and don't stop here you will have missed the best b&b ,the food is beyond excellent ,if your booking Its a must to order dinner .We have stayed here several times in recent years and in 22 years of travelling the Karoo never found anything better ,Elmarie and Kobus are exceptional hosts and go the extra mile to make sure your stay is an exceptional experience Geoff wood
