Everything was great, I would try to spend at least two nights (I promise it will be worth it!) It's a few minutes walk from the centre, very close to the winter lights. Nice and calm, the onsens are great, both public and private. They accept people with tattoos (the whole area is very flexible).

We loved our stay in Wakka. We stayed for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. It is well located in the south part of Aso's caldeira and a good spot to explore the area if you have a car. Despite being quite deeply hidden in the nature of Aso, Wakka was quite easy to find. Instructions send ahead to find the route were clear, there was little signs showing the way and the Google Maps location was correct. The room was clean, the bed confortable and with a little terrace to go with it! The hosts were very nice and even offered us a snack for the road after check-out! If you want a very peaceful and authentic experience of Aso, surrounded by trees, i recommend you stay at Wakka!!!

Genuinely, I would pick this hostel over a 5-star hotel any day. The room is large, comfy and well-equipped with a small table, tissues, travel guides etc. I LOVED the Kumamon dotted around the hotel, especially the Kumamon key chain and the Kumamon that will sit in the receptionist seat. Everything is so clean and tidy! The decorations of the hostel blew my mind, I genuinely had never seen such exquisite interior designs. The hostel even had a huge powder room, perfect for us ladies, and a huge common area with so much manga, a massage chair, games and even PCs! I would return to Kumamoto just to stay at this hostel again.

Thank you for the warm welcome and a lovely stay — we and our kids really enjoyed it.

The host is the kindest host anyone could ever ask for. He made my stay very comfortable. He didn’t hesitate to provide needs and he even drove me with my luggages to my next destination.
