If I could score this 11 I would give it 12. Quite stupendous palazzo in Marano Marchesato, near Cosenza. In the family of Francesco and Achille for 400 years. Has its own parco, with pool and four treehouses, where I was free to spend the morning of my departure writing under the shade of olive trees. The hospitable and fascinating Francesco welcomed me with coffee and a tour of the house and grounds and local recommendations. Achille prepared a superb breakfast. The room was huge and very comfortable and the peace and tranquillity are soothing. There is a terrific restaurant Macrito down the hill (a steep climb back after pinsa!). Use Google to find it as my satnav did not recognise the Via Leoncavallo address. This is a paradise worth going out of your way for, as Marano is not an obvious destination. I am hearing that they may set up a Calabrian cookery school in conjunction with the restaurant. I am so glad I found this, but my biggest regret is that I did not get there earlier to enjoy the (two!) pools and the parco more and that I could not stay longer on my tour. I will return one day for a much longer stay.

Rooms are very nive and very, comolete and very clean. The location is pretty quiet and very accesible. The staff is super kind and helpful. It is not the first time I rent a room in Il Borgo and the experience has been always as good as this last time

The booking was for 3 adults but breakfast for 2 had initally been laid out. This was quickly remedied once it was pointed out to the host. It is very basic and the lack of an electric kettle was very apparent. We don't drink coffee, but i wouldn't want to use the coffee machine if i did. The wi-fi is fine in the reception area are but weak to unobtainable else where. Had some issue with the shower which we finally managed to resolve ourselves after making numerous calls to the host who appeared indicated that they would be at the property in a few minutes, but this may just be a misunderstand as i don't speak Italian. Can't really blame the host for not speaking English.

We spent a week at B&B La Piazzetta. The hostess, Alessandra, gave us a warm welcome. The spacious room overlooks a charming little square with a fountain and restaurants. Alessandra is a wonderful host—she treated us to homemade cake and even drove us to the train station when we departed. If you arrive in Paola by train, first follow the main road up towards Paola until you reach a stone staircase. Go to the top, then turn left, followed by a right turn. Continue straight ahead until you reach the large gate leading into the small square where the hotel is located. Have a great trip!
