This guesthouse is located along one of the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes and Yunomine Hot Spring, said to be one of the oldest hot springs baths in Japan, is a 5-minute walk from the property. Extremely kind and accommodating staff who went out of their way to make our stay both possible and exceptional despite no obligation to do so. Beautiful, comfortable, and clean facilities with private onsen that hit the spot just right.

A 1000 year-old Buddhist temple, Shukubo Koya-san Eko-in offers Japanese-style accommodation, a beautiful garden and free WiFi. Guests are free to attend Buddhist morning services, the Goma fire ritual and meditation. The place was clean and well maintained. The monks are very approachable and friendly.

The Minshuku is located in Chikatsuyu, which is a perfect location if you are hiking the Kumano Kodo. Whether you are taking two days from Tanabe or go all the way in one day, it is good to rest in Chikatsuyu. The Minshuku is very clean, with all the comfort of the room, kitchen and bathroom + shower. The best part is really Ike san hospitality, he can speak several languages and he is a great cook. From dinner to breakfast, including the lunch to go, everything he prepared was fully enjoyed. He is also very kind and overall interesting person to chat with. He definitely made our stay more comfortable.

And if you wake up early like me and there’s no bus at that time, you still able walk to the Shingu station. The hostel has 4 bicycles to be borrowed with no charge. You can ride it around the city.

The food was great, especially the dinner. The house is very beatufil and well kept.

The tourist spots in this island are close to each other so if your comfortable walking then you’ll be fine.You also have the option to rent a car if there’s any. If not, you can rent a bike from cogicogi.Fyi, it is near a coin laundry station that’s open from 5am til 12midnight. The owners served me a healthy breakfast for my 2 night stay and I’m happy to able to experience their hospitality. Thanks once again :)

This 3-star ryokan offers full-day security. Matsushita Park is 45 km away and Subaru Hall is 47 km from the ryokan. Staying here was one of my favorite experiences on the trip. I enjoyed the morning prayer and the cemetery near by. The food suprised and delighted.

The monks were very welcoming and professional. I liked how the temple is not commercial at all, and feels like a very local experience. The rooms are big and comfortable. As a solo female traveller I overall felt safe. The meals (dinner and breakfast) are typical Japanese vegetarian courses, served in very beautiful rooms. The service in the early morning was very interesting and insightful. I appreciated that there were both Japanese visitors and foreign visitors and the monks gave us an explanation in English.
