The Elsewhere hotel was a little gem: it felt like were were staying at one of the ancient buildings we saw around town, while still having the comfort of a modern hotel room. I would recommend accepting the pick up service offered from the train station, since it's quite far from the hotel: we were greeted by Alice, who spoke excellent English and who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, even booking the tickets for the city's attractions with her own phone and account when mine didn't want to cooperate. We went to Ping Yao to experience ancient China, and came away with the experience of a lifetime.

I really made the right choice with this homestay in Pingyao! The location is absolutely a hidden gem—just a two-minute walk gets you to Rishengchang Bank, so there’s no need to get up early to soak in the Jin merchant culture. It’s super convenient to head back for a break after visiting the attractions. What’s more, the surrounding area is bustling with life. When you stroll out in the evening, the lanterns light up, and old shops and street food stalls are right in front of you, full of that lively, authentic vibe. No need to hunt for places to eat; just step into any spot, and it’s sure to be delicious. The biggest surprise, though, is the service here—they truly take care of every little detail. When I checked in, the owner warmly introduced local attractions, even telling me which shop has the most authentic Pingyao beef and the best time to visit Rishengchang to avoid crowds. That kind of thoughtful care makes the whole trip feel so warm. I’ll definitely stay here again when I come back to Pingyao. Great location, amazing atmosphere, and service that’s second to none—highly recommended!

Everything! Very beautiful traditional courtyard mansion hotel in the heart of the ancient city. The room was very well appointed and comfortable, with a lot of nice touches. The breakfast was delicious. The staff were superb, very attentive and helpful. They’ve offered free pick up and drop off to the train station, which was very convenient. They gave us excellent suggestions for eating places and attractions. They help us to organise our laundry. And more and more! If ever back in Pingyao we will definitely stay here again!

That was a fantastic stay in one of the best areas of Medieval city. The hosts gave a very warm welcome meeting us at the train station and helping with delivering the baggage which was very handy because one cannot take a car into the ancient city and otherwise has carry your bags from the gates. The location is an ideal balance of central position just several hundred meters away from the one of the main streets with the Administrator’s house and a quite alley away from noise. The room was a separate house with 1,5 floors. The interior is made with love and with much attention to details which make you feel that you are indeed in an ancient city but with all the benefits of modernity. The courtyard where you can sit and have a breakfast or just enjoy tea or simply relax is really impressive. This is family run business and the guys are always ready to help and very responsive.

We had a truly enjoyable experience at this hotel. The property is new, beautifully designed, and tastefully decorated — every detail reflects a refined sense of style. Despite being in a different country, we immediately felt at home thanks to the warm and thoughtful atmosphere. One of the highlights was the excellent breakfast, freshly prepared on the spot every morning — a rare treat that made a real difference. The hotel is located in the northern part of the city, which is ideal for visiting Pingyao and exploring the area comfortably. A special mention goes to the hotel manager, who welcomed us with delicious local snacks waiting in our room — a kind gesture that added a personal touch to our stay. In short, everything exceeded expectations. If you’re planning a visit to this area, this hotel is an excellent choice. Super recommended
