We had high expectations given other good comments, but Tai and his family definitely exceeded them. The place in itself is a beautiful, wooden Japanese-style house with garden. Rooms are cozy and comfortable. Shower is great including water. What I loved the most is how thoughtful the decoration is, with small objects, books and artifacts in every room which make the atmosphere unique. Japanese breakfast is included and it was delicious. Location is 15 minutes from city center but you won’t even notice given Tai and his family will pick you up and leave you at the station. In our case, because we were planning to explore the city in the afternoon, they even left us in town in the morning, kept our luggage and brought it to the station later. As cherry on the top, if you are a foreigner, Tai speaks perfect English! He also made sure to make dinner reservations for us, which is not easy to do without speaking Japanese.

Gorgeous place, really big and beautifully designed. Despite being next door to the train station it was much quieter than expected. It was a bit further down the street than the Google map location, on the corner of the block but it was a perfect. Highly recommended with super helpful owners.

We had a wonderful stay at Ryokan Asunaro The beautiful surroundings and authentic Japanese experience will stay with us forever. 1. It's quite near Takayama Nohi Bus Center - about a 10 minute walk. 2. The property is very new, so everything is clean and in working condition. 3. There's a kitchen with fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle, where you can eat or prepare your food. 4. It's in a nice quiet neighborhood. 5. The owners, Peng and Oscar, went out of their way to make me feel welcome. They were very friendly and genuinely helpful, when I had some special requests. I couldn't have asked for nicer property owners!

Beautiful house and equally beautiful and quiet neighborhood, but then very close to the old town of Takayama. What more to ask. The facilities was perfect. Had a wonderful time cooking up a storm with our butcher bought hida beef. Although we didn't use the outdoor bath due to the cold, it was a nice touch. Even though the shower area was a little chilly, they provided portable heater you can wheel around as needed. And the Balmuda kitchen equipments....
