The Gap
Featuring a private beach area, water sports facilities, and a terrace, Akwaba Lodge provides accommodation in The Gap with free WiFi and sea views. The family-friendly restaurant serves African and American dishes, as well as Cajun Creole and Caribbean cuisine. Akwaba lodge is located at the middle of Isla Solarte about a 10 minute boat ride ($10/person) from Bocas del Toro. It is on a hill overlooking the water and Isla Bastimentos Breakfast is included in your stay. Lunch dinner and beverages are available at a very reasonable price. The lodge is an eco style lodge surrounded by jungle. Though there are no hiking trails through the jungle you are serenaded by the sounds of birds. Kayaks, SUP and snorkeling equipment is available for your use. Your host and their children are wonderful and will do anything to make your stay a pleasant and wonderful experience. Things to know, the lodge is off the grid with good WiFi and does not have AC, but we were comfortable with our open windows and ceiling fan. The lodge accepts credit cards, but tours and water taxis are cash only so bring US dollars. Side trips to Red Frog Beach and Green Acres Chocolate are a must. Pack insect repellent and anti-itch cream.

Wow, this accommodation blew us away! Pierre and Manon who are running this property with a lot of LOVE are incredible people worthy of admiration! They bought a house with a good amount of land around it and have constructed several cabins, a yoga deck, a restaurant and a boat house over the last few years. Ataraxia has its own pier, so boatmen will easily take you there from Isla Colon. At the back of the property, there is a nature reserve, a jungle with so many treasures! We were able to spot the red frogs, caimans, a racoon, yellowtail birds, giant turquoise butterflies, turtles, giant ants, we rented a free kayak and paddled through the mangroves nearby, and we walked on several occasions to Old Bank, the main village on Isla Bastimentos, and once to Wizzard Beach. Manon also booked us a trip to Zapatilla (including sloth, dolphin and starfish spotting and snorkeling) and Pierre arranged our transportation to the airport. Several ideas for activities in the area conveniently presented in a booklet in the room (Zapatilla trip, Wizzard Beach hike, Red Frog & Polo Beach, bio-luminescence tour, etc.). Free kayaks and snorkeling gear available. If you are into botany and medicinal plants, you will have a lot to talk about with Pierre who planted so many of them around the property.
Running a guesthouse in the middle of the jungle is a hard task, yet the couple somehow manage it and always keep smiling and interacting with guests at all times. Thank you very much, we will never forget our stay with you! You are a true inspiration!

Wonderful little guesthouse with jungle hut. Simple clean rooms with sea view. Carmen is a great cook and everyone is eating together . Wonderful day trip to Zappadillo with dolphin encounters are highly raccomended!
Peacefull location, great breakfast and dinner, amaizing nature around the house! Hosts were great. We stayed in the main house as we were a party of 4 people but for 2 would definitely recomend to take a cabin, they areso cute! Kayaks were great to use. The house if eco - cold water only and electricity from the solar panels - if you are looking for simplicity and being in line with nature this is for you! We definitely enjoyed it!
The Eclypse is a very nice hotel. It looks fantastic, our hut-on-stilts was big and was absolutely fine for our family (children aged 13 and 10). The fact that the property backed onto its own nature reserve gave it an edge over hotels; we saw caiman, a sloth, some cool little red frogs and an impressively sized moth one evening. For those not so keen on the jungle, there were cocktails and really good food in the restaurant. Not the speediest of service but that wasn't a problem for me; we were on Caribbean time!
