The Hills are Alive in Salzburg

Made famous for its “hills alive with the sound of music”, Salzburg is a very pretty town filled with romantic buildings and squares. If you are not yet aware that Mozart was born here, then you will be as soon as you land at Salzburg W.A. Mozart

International Airport. Further your education about this musical prodigy at his actual birthplace, Mozarts Geburtshaus. The city is the namesake of the Salzach River which runs through it, and alongside this beautiful river lays the Schloss Mirabell, one of the many impressive castles within the city limits. Schloss Mirabell and Hellbrunn with their picturesque gardens, beautiful galleries and impressive halls make the ideal spot for a picnic during summer.

The white-stone Hohensalzburg fortress is perched upon a green hill and offers magnificent views over the city. Or, you can escape it all in the Kapuzinerberg forest, which offers splendid Alpine vistas- a reminder of Salzburg’s natural beauty.

The shopping centre focuses around Alter Markt Square and Getreidegasse, the latter is a quirky street with old-fashioned signs indicating what each store sells. With 125 hotels and guesthouses available on Booking.com, your stay in Salzburg is bound to be as pleasant as this city is pretty.

It is better to visit on a Friday and stay until Saturday. Sunday is very quiet. Almost no shops open and the best restaurants are either not open or require prior reservation. The city is much more than a Mozart touristy novelty. I enjoyed touring the Castle Fortress at the top of the hill. I was disappointed that the Salzburg museum and chapel were closed to visitors on Sunday. But this was due to special events and renovations.

    I loved Salzburg.

I loved Salzburg. Had planned a full-day round trip from Vienna and the OBB train station agent asked me if I want my return open.I said ok. So thankful for that suggestion/question. I got there around 4pm and right away started searching for a hotel. The city centre across the river is where I spent my 1.5 days (except for the apartment hotel in Anif at night) I didn’t book a guide and only followed the tourist crowd. Loved the hill-top view, Mozart museum, street cafe and the view everywhere. I was lucky that the rain had just stopped the day of my trip. would’ve loved the Eagle Nest and Sound of Music tour but no time for them.

    Such a wonderful small town.

Such a wonderful small town. Sound of music tour was lots of fun. Many good restaurants. Very walkable. We were lucky to be there for a local traditional festival, which was almost like a little Octoberfest, but not rowdy.

An amazing city with so much culture, touristic attractions and museums. The river cruises, guided tours, walking trails and being at the foothills of the Alps makes Salzburg an amazing and colourful city to visit at any time of the year.

Beautiful city. Mix of history and natural beauty. Untersberg and Gaisberg a must visit. Trick fountains were really tricky. Beautiful Mirabelle gardens. Natural beauty on way to Halstatt. Fortress, the Lift and Alstadt completed our perfect stay. Easy to get around. Salzburg card was a great way to travel and visit places. Cold beer, frozen yogurt at Fabios, Sachertorte - all a must try

We loved the beautiful Old City and the view of the mountains from the castle was amazing. We also recommend the Mozart Museum and the Christmas Museum. The city centre is compact and easily walkable, and ebveryone we met was really friendly and helpful.

Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 2,905 reviews
The location, the room facilities, the roof top terrace for dinner and cocktails with view of fortress is outstanding, also breakfast. Cannot fault this place. If you book parking, there is a drop off area out the front to unload and then a short drive to the car spot. Do not stay anywhere else in Salzburg. Location to old town. Nice walk up behind hotel. Comfortable beds, nice bathroom, water and juice provided. Mirabell garden is 5 min walk. 10 out of 10.

Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,165 reviews
The price was reasonable for what you got . I liked that the hotel provided a free travel which was convenient was you must take bus 7 into city centre or else it is a 30 minute walk and with the heat in Salzburg , it was not worth it . The manager was friendly but seemed constantly busy despite having seen lots of staff running about the place .

This hotel was in a perfect location for sightseeing in Salzburg. It is situated in the heart of the Old Town. The staff were absolutely delightful, very welcoming on arrival and extremely helpful throughout our stay. The room was beautiful and very comfortable.

The beds were comfortable, and the bedding was clean. Salzburg has a good bus service with bus stops near to the hotel. Otherwise, it was a 20-30 minute walk to the old town. Bus number 2 gets you from the train station to the bus stop near the hotel.
