There are too many tourists in central Vienna even very late in September which makes queuing for everything frustrating and nowhere to sit outdoors in good weather for food - the wurst stands were heaving the Sunday I left. I booked 3nts & did a day trip to Salzburg and Salzkammergut. Salzburg was way more chilled with a wine festival. I didn't have enough time to see the palace or Belvedere so I did the ring road tram self tour on the 24hr pass for €8 & visited Beethoven's house. I booked the CAT from city to airport expecting great things: the lounge area seats were stained, unhelpful staff, the free lockers are always full but the station lockers at Mitte take card and are a reasonable rate (take photo of code): entrance is opposite an escalator coming up from underground at street level. I would take S7 in future.
If you are into museums, gardens and concerts then you'll need 3-4 days to really get the best of Vienna. Had I not taken a day trip I would have fitted most things into my 3nt stay. Public buildings are very grand. Canal area is covered in tagging - didn't appeal to me. I also found a Christmas market on the night I arrived in downtown. If you are staying for a lot longer and in the season, there are many types of day trips by train, boat or tour you can take to Hallstatt, Salzburg, Bratislava, Budapest however, I would suggest several days in Budapest.

We loved Vienna, especially the Belvedere Palace.
We loved Vienna, especially the Belvedere Palace. The section of Klimt art work is superb and there was a new area all about his life, with photos and letters, which was so informative and interesting.
We also enjoyed a wonderful concert at St Charles church.

Pretty city. Lovely architecture but very expensive.
Pretty city. Lovely architecture but very expensive. €6.5 for a double espresso. Makes the uk look cheap. And in central Vienna it seems as if they have been infected with American sickness of asking for tips always and everywhere.

A wonderful historic city, every building in the old town and the new town is an architectural heritage site. The public transport system is very simple and convenient. Despite the high prices, there is always something to see and do.

What a grand old city Vienna is!
What a grand old city Vienna is! Make sure to use the wonderful public transport to get around to more outlying regions like the wheel and the Danube! The wheel is in an amusement park that we had fun in, and I found the price worth the experience once (most city wheels go around more than once, but this one doesn't so get all your pictures on that first go-round). We had a break and some apps at The View right on the Danube, and it was wonderful!
I was here for work before spending an extra day for fun, and we were lucky to get a walking tour of the Museumplatz and adjoining areas with a professional guide. We didn't do any museums except the St. Virgil Chapel (Virgilkapelle) that was accessed from the Ubahn 1 (if memory serves me), and it was very cool! My husband went to the Museum of Natural History and wasn't impressed, but a colleague's kids loved it. We would have gone to the zoo and the Sisi and Wien museums if we had more time.
If you are near Westbahnhof, go to Yummy Cooking about 3 minutes from there - a great mom and pop Asian restaurant with amazing duck - get it with the rice not the noodles and try the summer rolls and mango & avocado salad - all very yummy!
Be patient with yourself if you're new navigating the public transport!

Vienna is a beautiful city, compact and easy to get to the main attractions. It was a pleasure to walk around the city, there are lots of green spaces and the cafe culture means that it is a very social place to stay. The public transport system is great value for money.

I really liked the ambience overall, the hotel is situated in a small alley surrounded by historic buildings and next to a green inner courtyard. This makes it very quiet, which is unusual when staying in the city centre; the airport train station is a 6 minute walk away.
The building itself is historical and gives this vibe, while the rooms are well renovated, very clean and the staff is very friendly. Breakfast is on a terrace reaching into the small park and a very good restaurant with traditional Austrian dishes is in the same alley.

We arrived in Vienna when it was snowing heavily, so it was great to have a nice, warm, big hotel room for all three of us. The breakfast is good, and staff are friendly and helpful, including in arranging airport transfers. There is a tram station about 100-200m away from the hotel, but traveling to the city centre takes about 15-20 minutes, and tram lines often break down, so plan your travel accordingly.

We arrived late at night and were upgraded to a suite that was so thoughtful and unexpected. This was a wonderful space and just so comfortable. The hotel is walking distance to the city centre or there is a bus. It was easy to reach the airport from here via the station. Thank you for a wonderful stay. This is where we will stay on our next visit to Vienna.

This is a budget hotel, and as long as you go with the right expectation, the overall hotel has no issues. The location is 15min on the metro from central Vienna, so ideal for saving some money while not spending too much time commuting in-out of the city centre.

Wonderful location within walking distance of the main city centre. There is an underground station nearby. The hotel is basic and no frills, and good value for central Vienna. They stored our luggage for a few hours on the day of check out.
