I stayed in Balranald on the way to Mungo National Park. Balranald's visitor information centre is excellent and was helpful regarding road conditions and travel time for my trip to Mungo NP. The road to Mungo NP Visitor Centre is mostly sealed with about 50 km of dirt/gravel. The unsealed road was mostly good but got worse inside the Park. It took me just under two hours to drive there.

A nice little town of approx. 1,000 people, situated on the picturesque Murrumbidgee River, 1.5hrs drive east of Mildura. Great, new Visitor Centre and cafe in the main street, with good coffee and scrambled eggs on sourdough toast for $16-17 :-) Good value Chinese food in the local Balranald District Ex-Services Memorial Club on the main street. Fabulous 'Southern Cross' museum with full-size replicas of the Southern Cross and Lady Southern Cross. The museum offers much more than planes, with items and implements and displays of local history. Entry is Adults $5, Families $12 - value for money and you can easily spend a few hours looking around. The Riverbend area, part of the River Loop (road) is very pretty, with stands of towering gums and the Murrumbidgee meandering slowly by. The town is also the gateway to Lake Mugo National Park and Yanga National Park.

Balranald is a very small but clean & well maintained town on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River. We ate at the Discovery Centre which we were able to walk to & served nice meals. A tour of Yanga Station just out of town is well worth the effort.

The male receptionist was rude and unhelpful.
The male receptionist was rude and unhelpful. When presented with a dirty tissue left in the room he said "it is what it is". The room was not the Deluxe King Suite that we booked for. The room was infested with cockroaches and we killed 6. Obviously they knew about the problem because there was a tin of cockroach spray sitting on the table. There was no bedside lights for reading in bed. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

We liked the effort the owners have put into the rooms, which were very clean and comfortable. We'd like to know the make of the mattress so we can get one - we had a great night's sleep!
The meals at the hotel itself were delicious!
We don't normally take the trouble to leave a review, but we felt the Shamrock deserved one.
Comfortable for an overnight stop. Had everything I needed and was quiet. Manager at reception was very friendly and helpful. It's the second time I've stayed here and would stay again if I'm ever back in Balranald.

Convenient location on the outskirts of Balranald. They were able to allow access for a high vehicle via a side entrance.
Rooms were clean and comfortable.
