I was off season so with clouds and some rain everything (star gazing) was cancelled just hour before they commenced. There is nothing else to do here, 6hrs to turn around and go home. The landscape is the same as the rest of country NSW, nothing special to see here. No activities, no nice places to dine or breakfast. You can see clear sky's and stars from almost any country town or camp off the populated areas. The Sydney Observatory has a better experience come rain or shine. Nothing special, actually very boring and disappointing. Save yourself a long road trip and avoid unless it's clear and you happen to be passing through.

The town is lovely and surprisingly vibrant.

The town is lovely and surprisingly vibrant. Lots of interesting murals, some large and some small, and the fossil museums in the visitor centre and at Crystal Kingdom were really interesting. The drawcards are the nearby Telescope Observatories, the Warrumbungle National Park and the Pillaga Forest.

This place is very basic but excellent for a family with children to get in touch with nature . Plenty of room to play and explore. Beautiful wildlife numerous birds and kangaroos. Lovely pool with slide for the little ones. Supermarket is a 8 minute drive away as you will need to do your own cooking .

If you can, spend time at Parkes Radio Telescope, Do the Solar System Drive. Visit Coonabarabran Information Centre and see the history of the Diprotodon dinosaur which lived in the area up to 10,000 years ago. The Chinese Restaurant at the Golf Club is excellent. Visit the Optical Telescope. A must see. One of those towns that have much, much more than appears on the outside. If you don't have time constraints, you could easily spend a week here and in surrounding towns .

Beautiful area, the forest area is gorgeous.

Beautiful area, the forest area is gorgeous. It's called a 'Dark Sky's area since the Astronomy observation studies going on. So outdoor lights reduced basically, but not an issue..... fascinating!! The township has all you need & the Visitors Centre is a must - lots of geo- displays, etc & the staff are great! Got IGA, Woolies, yummy bakeries, clothes shopping & lots more. Lively township & people.

Coonabarabran is a great place to visit and go to the Warrumbungle National Park and the Siding Springs Observatory. The town itself is quiet small but has some lovely shops and cafes to explore. We enjoyed having a choice of 2 electric charging points to choose from - one a free one at Barron's Tyre and Mechanical and the other at the Visitors centre. There is more to see but we go there mainly for the National Park and Observatory

Convenient location on north western side of Coonabarabran to continue my journey north to Brisbane. The lovely lady at the reception was friendly and check-in took only a minute. The room was comfortable and very quiet, there was no noise from the highway after dark (I had been concerned that the trucks might be noisy at night; however, the traffic was very minimal after sunset)

The room and bathroom were very clean. There were plenty of bathroom amenities supplied. Beautiful Bath Sheets and face washers. Good quality bed linen and a very large comfortable bed. Easy walking distance to clubs, pubs, and shops. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to book accommodation in Coonabarabran it is by far the best motel in town.

The staff had no problem with us bringing a dog, we were asked not to leave our K9 unattended, a perfectly reasonable request. The hotel is ok. BBQ area available. The air conditioner works well and we had plenty of hot water. Enough open space to walk the dog and play fetch.
