Fentonbury isn't a village with shops but it is a lovely rural setting along the lines of what we expected. It's less than 30 mins from Maydena Bike Park which was the reason we stayed there. There is a petrol station only a few minutes down the road on the way to Maydena.

Hamlet Downs is a nature stay/ farm stay. The are trails around the property have plenty of birds; especially cockatoos. Percy the platypus lives onsite. The resident sheep and the pigs are pretty cute, too. At the house, we had plenty of space to stretch out. We were very comfortable— Steve made sure we had enough wood for our fire— and wine and beer, too. It is a spacious house with plenty of cooking implements. (We are four adults) Mt Field is an easy drive.
