For dining and and other amenities you're pretty restricted unless you have a car, and they are hard to hire unless you do so weeks, probably months, in advance. There are also no accessible sandy beaches at the Cove itself (though apparently there are elsewhere on the island). Nett result (plus having the 'flu!) was that I could not do some of the things I'd looked forward to on Christmas Island, such as exploring the jungle and snorkelling.

A week is a good time to stay on Christmas Island.
A week is a good time to stay on Christmas Island. You absolutely need a hire car, and be prepared for driving on bush tracks, and lots of walking. There are (currently) limited places to eat, but they are all good.
My top three attractions were The Blowholes, the Dales, and the Territory Day park look out.
