What pleasure to sit/walk and observe the Hunter River from the Newcastle foreshore. Delightful beaches are in easy access. So too Newcastle inner-city area. Stockton (on the northside of the river is worth an excursion and reminder to "old" Newcastle. Lovely beaches, amazing pubs all in short walking distance from Arvia accommodation. Parking was very secure at location and walking distance to many shops, cafes, pubs etc. Love visiting Newcastle for the op shops, so many to choose from in each suburb. Newcastle city is very run down and neglected. There is a lot of graffiti on the derelict buildings along the wharf. I would not consider it a holiday destination. The people in Newcastle are incredibly friendly and eager to help. As a driver navigating the city, I was pleasantly surprised by the kindness and courtesy of the local motorists. The beaches were a breathtaking sight, pristine and well-maintained. Access to the children's playgrounds was effortless, and there were ample toilet facilities conveniently located nearby. The unit overlooks the old Newcastle railway station with a 180 degree view of the river from Fort Scatchley to the Victoria wharf and beyond. It was great to see the many ships arriving and leaving. The room was very large and well appointed, catering for a long stay if required. The underground parking was a bonus as the car was securely parked for our stay.
