Burrendong Dam was our favourite place. We ate at Jess's Cafe—brilliant food and coffee. It is very easy to get around Wellington. We visited the main park down the street. If you have time to stop, there is a lot of history and information about Wellington available. The people at the Newsagency were nice, helpful, and friendly, as were those at the Federal Hotel. The food here was delicious and affordable. However, the Maccas restaurant needed attention. The restaurant was not clean or tidy, and the staff were not hospitable. One Easter Monday, I hit a kangaroo at 12:15 pm, 18 kilometres past Bodangora on our way home. This wasn't nice. Thank God, there wasn't much damage done, and the car was still driveable.

The purpose of our trip was to visit the Western Plains zoo at Dubbo. We should have chosen somewhere closer to Dubbo. There aren't many options for eating/restaurants in Wellington NSW and it's a 40 minute drive to Dubbo.

A humble town with a population of less than 5K.
A humble town with a population of less than 5K. There's not much to do here other than a stop over and have a beer at the local pub and possibly fish on the bank of the river.
People are friendly and always keen to have a chat.
However, be mindful when opening a cupboard or two, the friendly "Little Stuart" may greet you and be on his way.

Wellington's principal attraction is the Wellington Caves and though not fully open during COVID they are worth visiting Wellington to see.
Supermarkets were great for stocking up with groceries.

Wellington is still a beautiful town as I remember it in the late 60's with wide streets and beautiful ornate buildings. I think it has changed with the various economic climates regional towns have endured however it seems there is a resurgence and the town will revive itself. Properties are being snapped up due to relocation from major cities and people now able to work from home. The Covid 19 has made some positive insidious changes for all regional areas. This is great to see and I hope it continues. Revamping the beautiful homes and buildings and hopefully reopening business will be wonderful for families moving here.
