Wilmington is an old and small country town. This hotel was the only accom option. You should stay in such a place knowing this. The building is old, the facilities are old, but instead of comparing it to some modern 5star thing in a metropolis, take it for what it is - a chance to go back in time a bit, chill out, and relax.
The town has very few "shops". There is a cafe that does really good pasties. (Pasties, not "pastries"). Had a piping hot one of those at 9am when they opened :) A service station that is also the local "supermarket". And an op shop (thrift shop), that painfully only opened at 10am, just after I had to leave. Looking through the window it seemed very fun :) Some great heritage small buildings - the old police station looks magnificent, in its modest way.
