Baku is a city of contrasts.
Baku is a city of contrasts. It is fast growing and there are loads of modern facilities but also on the edges still lots of areas of Soviet mass housing. The roads in the central area are very busy and even more so during my visit as they were preparing for the F1 Grand Prix. I hate to say this, but Baku is wonderful and shockingly under-touristed. The city blends the historic in one part of town, with ultra-modern architecture in a different part of the city, maintaining an appropriate level of separation between the two. The people are amazing friendly and helpful. The food is quite good. There are very interesting sights just outside of the city. Great City.
Great City. Unfortunately we went during peak summer months so it was very hot, almost 40 to 48 degrees centigrade. City is beautiful. People are kind, humble and helpful but most do not speak English so we used the google translation on our phones. The Baku boulevard was great, lot of people hanging around until midnight and beyond. No threat of robbery. Baku is very safe with police on duty in each area. There is so much to do in Baku. Its a unexplored gem. Tourists are mostly from Russia and the middle East and some parts of Europe but hardly any from North America. Food was delicious with so much variety. The location is great too, there are affordable coffee shops on the same street, and Bravo market just behind, and the Old City and Icerisheher metro station just 5 minutes walk from it, Fountain square is also just down the street.
