FAQs about hotels in Ghent

A Historical, Cultural and Culinary Gem

Located in the Flemish region of Belgium, the beautiful medieval city of Ghent is not only a city of history, but also a romantic place to visit. The city is full of hidden historical, cultural and culinary gems that you can easily discover.

The Gravensteen or 'Castle of the Count' is a deceptively enchanting sight dating back to the Middle Ages. Constructed by Philip of Alsace, the count of Flanders, it's partially surrounded by a moat and beautifully restored, and hosts an interesting museum about the history of prison life.

Part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Belfry of Ghent is a medieval tower overlooking the Old Town centre. Saint Bavo Cathedral and Saint Nicholas' Church are the city's other two towers, with St. Nicholas' Church being one of the oldest landmarks in Ghent (known as Gent in Flemish).

Enjoy a relaxing walk in the picturesque medieval streets and stop at one of the charming traditional restaurants for Belgium beer and a classic Flemish meat stew with French fries. Local delicacies include the popular Belgium chocolate and the purple jelly-filled candies called the 'noses'.

Antwerp International Airport is 52 km away, while Brussels Airport is 55 km. Just book your hotel, guest house, apartment, or B&B through Booking.com and discover everything this stunning city has to offer.

Beautiful historic buildings centred around the river and canals. Fabulous lively atmosphere. Plenty of bars and restaurants. Good shopping. Wonderful churches and lots of museums. Lots of little passageways and green spaces to relax in. Great public transport links.

Ghent is the mix city between the 'historical' Bruges and the 'student' city of Leuven and the 'advanced' city of Antwerp. So visiting Ghent gives you a feeling of a young, progressive city that did not forget it's past. Do not come to Ghent if you want to see one aspect of Belgian life - Ghent has, gives and lives it all to the fullest. Next to that the unconventionallity, little rebelry is still giving it, its own nature - not to be compared to any city. This city contains own, foreignand mixed cultures so any corner you turn will amaze.

We were so pleased to choose Ghent as our base as it was an authentic and friendly city. We spent 2 days exploring the Castle, a boat tour, Ghent Museum and botanical gardens were all stand outs for us. We also did day trips out to Bruges (22mins by train, great but mor touristy), Brussels (30mins by train), Ostend (40mins by train, Atlantic Wall Museum is well worth it), Ypres (1hr10 by train to learn about WW1). It was lovely to go out and return to lovely Ghent. We walked everywhere but trams, buses and taxis were available. Flemish, French and English are widely spoken and we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome.

The churches and architecture are beautiful.

The churches and architecture are beautiful. Also the rivers running through the city. There are a lot of free tours that give you the history and tips for what to visit and eat. You can go on little boat rides or just relax at some of the cities cafes and bars. It is super easy to walk everywhere. I would recommend at least 2 days and nights there, as there is a lot to see and you will also want to relax a little there. It rains a lot, so pick when you go wisely or just take appropriate clothes. Look for somewhere that serves the beef stew (Stoofvlees). It's delicious,

We used Ghent as our base.. we traveled from ghent to Brugges and Antwerp multiple times Easy transportation to other cities Pleasant city with a quieter feel if you prefer that. Brugges super busy with tour groups and Antwerp just very big Getting around ghent is super easy. Many restaurants and cafes that serve delicious food.

A gem in Belgium, where bicycles rule and there is a laid back feeling... I felt it was a bit like central Amsterdam with the canals, boats and cafés and bikes. There are many things to visit, if you are into culture, and the clothes shopping is very tempting! You can find any type of cuisine, it seems, and the prices are decent for the quality and volume served. I found the service everywhere quick and efficient, and every time I asked to speak in English it was met with a 'no problem' response. The river boat trip lasting about 40 mins means you can see the town from another angle and brush up on your history.

Good location - Helpful staff - Underground parking available. We hadn’t realised when booking that it was National Belgium day during our stay and Ghent hosts a massive 10 day music festival that takes over the city centre. Seriously large event with countless stages. So bear that in mind if going in July. Great vibe and energy though. Not so great for a quiet sight seeing - lol.

Unique place to stay. It was really a nice experience, but it was also very comfortable and quiet. Your host, Sven, is the best! He explained everything we needed to know and prepared us a fantastic breakfast. The location is good to visit Ghent, and in general Ghent is a good place to stay if you want to visit most of Belgium.

Super hotel with very friendly staff. We messaged the hotel with some queries before our stay and they were very swift to reply and helpful too. Very clean and a very nice 'feel' to the room too. The hotel is in the perfect position to explore Ghent. Links via trams and trains to other cities in Belgium are excellent too.

This place is magnificent. Probably will return already this year. The house was clean and it had everything necessary for a short stay. The area around the camping is one of the best places in Belgium, however it is quite likely that it will be crowded during the summer.

Great place to spend a few nights in Gent. The staff were absolutely amazing. Breakfast was very, very good. The interior is so unique, and the outside patio area is huge with a great bar serving Belgium beers. Thanks for the brilliant atmosphere you have created.
