An interesting Vlaanderen city (A small one) that is packed with fine architecture and history. I enjoy good beer and Ieper has lots of it. It has some good restaurants plus fast food places and shops for groceries etc. As a base, you are near to the coast and other places of interest. I visit at least once a year and I always find something to keep me interested. My Dutch is very limited but a simple "spreek je Engels?" will usually get a reply in English, "Of course!" so good for UK visitors.Guest review byAlanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We visited for family reasons and the trip perfect. Everyone we met was extremely welcoming and kind. Last post ceremony was incredibly moving as was visiting Menin Gate. Exceptional City, easy to get around. A visit to the tourist information centre, next to Flanders Fields musium is a must, they provide you with an extensive infomation pack. This does include vouchers. The people appeared to be both very helpfull and friendly. Dining out was a pleasure prices very reasonable, not as expensive as thought.Guest review byShephard - 10.0

Yper/Leper is a small but important medieval town rich in history of a successful commercial community and all that it brought to a wider europe. It played a prominent part in the World War 1 and the tragedy of that event can be observed, or consider deeper, within the town. A visit to the Last Post at 8.00 each evening is a must, and will be unforgettable. Good food, local beer, chocolates of course, all in a tightly packed town with memorable architecture, hidden corners and always something new. A town and surrounding area full of history from the Great War, at 8pm local time a service of remembrance is held at the Menin Gate. We hired out electric bikes to travel as the area is very cycle friendly, for alcoholic drinks the best bar for friendliness and atmosphere is De Afspraak on Diksmuidestraat. Seems to be where the locals go as the prices are around a third of bars around the Menin Gate. The best museum for history of the great War is the Paschendale Museum in Zonnebeke. Really beautiful place, good parking, clean comfortable rooms and extremely nice breakfast. Helpful staff, family run, cant recommend it highly enough.
