Melnik is the smallest town of Bulgaria.
Melnik is the smallest town of Bulgaria. Picturesque architecture, small cobbled streets, most of the houses are small restaurants and hotels. The town is among the examples of old architecture in the Balkans. There is the Kordopulov house to visit - a museum hosted in a big wine producer's house from the XVIII century. Also interesting are several other examples of late medieval architecture. Local food and wine are notorious. Especially the wine. In our opinion, Melnik was definitely worth the detour.
In our opinion, Melnik was definitely worth the detour. The sandstone pyramids were amazing. Too bad it was cloudy in the evening so the colors weren't as bright. Don't miss the hike from Rozhen monastery (you can drive up) towards Melnik - some 20 minutes or so into the hike you get a magnificent view of both Rozhen and Melnik pyramids. Then you can return back to the car or keep hiking if you were dropped off at the monastery (I don't know what the rest of the hike is like as we didn't do it). We also thought the tunnel was interesting - we drove up and walked through, takes about 30 mins total from Melnik.Guest review byIvana WSlovenia - 10.0

Melnik is an absolutely gorgeous town with amazing old architecture and Pyramid rocks towering over the town. Its really hot here during summer. A hotel with a pool highly recommended. The people are friendly. Service and food is great. Being a well reputed wine region the wine everywhere is very very good. Everything is walkable in the main centre. Melnik is a very beautiful village, stay there but do not eat at the local taverns if you are not bulgarian. Very expensive, they charge double price compared to what they charge to the locals. Melnik is lovely with lots of wine to try. Good for hiking too. Walking to the monastery is a must! It does NOT have a pharmacy. Finding basic things like paracetamol was a nightmare. A kind member of staff from a hotel gave me one of his arthritis meds.Guest review byKristonNetherlands

The hotel is just huge and atmospheric with nice garden and nice and very big dining room (we had there served breakfast). Just downstairs there are plenty of restaurants. The view of the sandy hills from the hotel is outstanding.
