The place is basic but clean and comfortable, also in a good location. The staff waited for me at the bus station and gave me immediately first directions. They also provided me with the information about hike to nearby monastery and called the bus company for an early morning bus to Sofia for me.

    Melnik is the smallest town of Bulgaria.

    Melnik is the smallest town of Bulgaria. Picturesque architecture, small cobbled streets, most of the houses are small restaurants and hotels. The town is among the examples of old architecture in the Balkans. There is the Kordopulov house to visit - a museum hosted in a big wine producer's house from the XVIII century. Also interesting are several other examples of late medieval architecture. Local food and wine are notorious. Especially the wine. However, drink with caution - local red wines are heavy and require a good balance with the food.

    In our opinion, Melnik was definitely worth the detour.

    In our opinion, Melnik was definitely worth the detour. The sandstone pyramids were amazing. Too bad it was cloudy in the evening so the colors weren't as bright. Don't miss the hike from Rozhen monastery (you can drive up) towards Melnik - some 20 minutes or so into the hike you get a magnificent view of both Rozhen and Melnik pyramids. Then you can return back to the car or keep hiking if you were dropped off at the monastery (I don't know what the rest of the hike is like as we didn't do it). We also thought the tunnel was interesting - we drove up and walked through, takes about 30 mins total from Melnik.

    Melnik is an absolutely gorgeous town with amazing old architecture and Pyramid rocks towering over the town. Its really hot here during summer. A hotel with a pool highly recommended. The people are friendly. Service and food is great. Being a well reputed wine region the wine everywhere is very very good. Everything is walkable in the main centre. So many restaurants to choose from. Make sure you make the hike to the monastery. The views from the top are spectacular.

    Melnik is a very beautiful village, stay there but do not eat at the local taverns if you are not bulgarian. Very expensive, they charge double price compared to what they charge to the locals. You can have exceptional food quality and half prices at Petric and maybe at other nearby villages

    Melnik is lovely with lots of wine to try.

    Melnik is lovely with lots of wine to try. Good for hiking too. Walking to the monastery is a must! It does NOT have a pharmacy. Finding basic things like paracetamol was a nightmare. A kind member of staff from a hotel gave me one of his arthritis meds.

    It has a great location, it’s the highest point in Melnik hence allows you to see everything from a high position. It’s spotless clean, very comfortable and quiet and peaceful. The host - Margarita - is very careful with details and has been very helpful with all our requests and needs. The breakfast was incredible as well. Exceptional value for money, but also it felt super cool to be able to establish a strong relationship with the host. Highly recommended!

    A very nice spot in the heart of Melnik, the room and the bathroom were exceptionally clean, the hotel has all the facilities and nothing is missing.
