The view was beautiful, and with weather conditions being very windy and rainy, the cottage was cozy and comfortable. The proximity to the beach, walking areas and limited shopping was perfect, as it was the Christmas holidays, and we felt like the only tourists in town! Our host was responsive to our every need as promised!

Pemba did her utmost to welcome us and make us feel at home. She cooked us a delicious, healthy gluten free porridge for breakfast and made us wonderful Indian food for supper, like prawn curry and butter chicken, as well as fresh local salmon. She gave us knowledgeable advise about the island, and a very special send-off the evening before we left. We felt very pampered! There are comfortable seating areas, inside and out, overlooking the bay. The hotel is not far from the pub, which has live local entertainment to join in on on Saturday night. A memorable experience.

    My highlights / activities:

My highlights / activities: Ferry (with my suv) to Sointula Island - and the orca rubbing beach (no whales tho). Skip the ferry to Alert Bay unless you are ONLY interested in First Nations exhibits (woman at that Tourist Office was rude and demanding !!) Easy drive to Telegraph Cove and Port Alice

We stayed in Port Mc Neill for 3 nights and used it as a base for seeing sights outside of the location. We caught a ferry across to Alert Bay and the journey was totally hassle free. It was easy to leave the car at our accommodation and board as foot passengers. We also visited Port Alice, Telegraph Cove and local areas.

Port McNeill is a quaint town on North Vancouver island.

Port McNeill is a quaint town on North Vancouver island. There are excellent roads with sidewalks, zero traffic jams, and sufficient restaurants and bars. Because it is located on a hillside, there are excellent ocean views everywhere, which is excellent.

Nice spot to spend a night or two, stroll the waterfront walkway, see the worlds largest Burl, visit the local museum with a great display of the towns history. Stop in at Mugz 2.0 for coffee and an amazing Cinnamon bun! It's all within walking distance. Try Devil's Bath Brewing and Gus's Pub for great drinks and good food and take a ferry to Alert Bay.

So many interesting things to do in Port McNeill. Fishing, exploring, rock hounding. Days trips to Port Alice, Telegraph Cove, Port Hardy. There is a food truck down by the water called Lata's Kitchen. Absolutely the best fish and chips I have ever had.

It is a quiet little town with a nice harbour to take a stroll. While walking at the harbour it was my first time to really see a bald eagle so close, it didn’t flew away while I was taking pictures of it. Food at Gus’ Pub was excellent, I’m glad there is a good place to eat at a small town. They also have a mall with a grocery store, Subwsy, Chinese restaurant and quite everything you might need while on a trip that you can’t live without. The long drive was beautiful too, the highway is scenic. The town is clean and so quiet and peaceful.

View of the harbour. Easy walk to our kayak meeting spot and to restaurants. Unfortunate that the hotel’s restaurant was closed. Room was nicely updated with clean washable bed covers.
