A "Hidden gem".
A "Hidden gem". Volcano country is about an hour's drive from the city, through a rural countryside that is well worth seeing. There are many lakes, where the locals constantly visit for outdoor camping, sailing and hiking (the water is too cold for swimming). A surprising ethnic mix of peoples (Spanish, Chinese, German and indigenous "Indian") with accompanying blend of architectural styles and their enclaves, and a blend of food choices that can be enjoyed by almost everyone. Our stay at the Sonesta Hotel was fabulous, with personal service everywhere and very comfortable accommodations. The parking of the hotel is right in front of the entrance or also in the underground parking that is free for the guests. The staff were all very helpful, accommodating and always smiling. The complimentary drinks including coffee on our (each?) floor was really appreciated especially with cold and hot filtered water. The room was huge and we had a view to the river that was nice. We didn't know where to stay in Osorno as we didn't know the city, but this hostal is everything we needed. Yes, it is a bit far from the center BUT it's super easy to come and go with a Uber ride.
