SHANGRI LA is a must destination.
SHANGRI LA is a must destination. Actually Yunnan Province is a must. Every town is so beautiful and exotic.. a dream for the eyes and for the photographers! 3 days per town is a minimum, there is so much to see and the people are really friendly... For me this place is over rated .
For me this place is over rated . Firstly this place is very much " designed" to attract tourism. If it is not for the unique temples , buildings and old villages of the Tibetian, their religion influence internal and to the community there which existed many decades ago, the Nepahai Plains, ShangriLa has not much to offer for tourist. Many business commercialise focuses on food and local delicacies. There are not many heritage location or attractive places to visit. My experience was of the old town mostly and two excursions one to a local monastery and the other to a national park Potatso about half hour away. The old town is pedestrian so that was good. Shangri-La is a beautiful town, a little slice of Tibet in Yunnan. You can experience Tibetan architecture and culture without having to get a permit for Tibet proper. Unfortunately, the city is very high altitude. We got altitude sickness pretty badly and had to leave after one night. Vehicle cannot go straight into the front of the property, but just walk 2 min from the dropoff point can reach the hotel. The design of the hotel is current and up to date. Rooms is comfortable and spacious. The owner is very friendly and generous, can check with her for tour around Shangrila. She is very helpful.
