Smečno is a small town with a baroque church and an...
Smečno is a small town with a baroque church and an impressive castle (which has been converted into an old people's home - very interesting to see) and a castle park. There is a restaurant with nice Czech pub food (Krusovicka 'at the pillars'). On the square there is a small supermarket and an ice cream seller. Smečno seems quite safe. 8 km away there is Lany with the residential baroque castle of the Czech president. One can visit the green house, chapel and castle park. Recommended! For history buffs there is the grave of president Tomas Garrigue Masaryk and his son Jan Masaryk (who played a key role during the founding of the state of Israel in 1948).
