Augsburg is a very charming city with lots of points of interest and restaurants and caffee's. Don't miss the Rathausplatz, Fuggerei, Maximilianstrasse, Koenigplatz and old city walls. For good Bavarian/Schwaebische Food I recommend Restaurant unter dem Bogen on Annastrasse. People watching and relaxing Caffee Eber am Rathausplatx. Take one of the city tours, organized by the city and raasonably priced. Augsburgs Strassenbahn System makes it easy to get around, buy a "Streifenkarte". So many sights worth seeing.
So many sights worth seeing. Top is the Fuggerei, allow several hours to explore this ground breaking social housing from the 1500's. The Dom is also worth visiting as is taking the tram to the Red Tower and Water towers. Most of the guidebooks didn't have a lot of information regarding Augsburg. There is actually a lot to see there! We were there for one night, and that was definitely not enough. We saw as much as we could but there is so much more we wanted to see. We did see the Augsburger Dom which was within walking distance from our hotel, the Dom Hotel. We also walked to the Rathaus where we visited the Goldener Saal (Golden Hall). We then walked past the Goldsmith's Fountain on the way to St. Anne's church where Martin Luther once preached. The botanic garden is fantastic and the zoo is pretty good and well priced. Most non-food businesses close on Sunday and be aware that you can't rely solely on paying by card so may have to go to the next bar along if you have no cash (or the nearest ATM). A very interesting city historically and culturally.
A very interesting city historically and culturally. Magnificent buildings and beautiful streets. Excellent tram and bus service to get around. Some unusual buildings including the old water towers and water system, the Fuggerei social housing which has a nice beer garden cooking fresh German food. It's quite a serene and calm city and good enough for tourists seeking historical settings. The food is offered is a mixture of staples, vegetables and fruit. This indicates a city focused of healthy foods. The medieval settings combined with a good transport system made of buses and trams, makes it so much easier and fun getting around the city.
