Excellent base for exploring the Harz Mountains. Many trails nearby of varying difficulty. Bus pass included with the local tax so rides around town and between towns were free. A curious little town with pretty parks and a pedestrian...
A curious little town with pretty parks and a pedestrian boulevard alongside a river. There are plenty of birds around, including white-throated dippers (Wasseramseln) feeding in the stream, and easy access to restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, and ATM. The town is a starting point for a number of hikes into some very beautiful terrain; recommended particularly is the Luchstour but if you actually want to see a lynx, best to try the Luchsgehege beside the Rabenklippe restaurant (recommend a scrumptious lunch on the balcony with a stunning view). It's a bit unfortunate that a major trucking artery runs through the town and into the Harzwald; the noise pollution can detract from the overall experience depending on where you are and which way the wind is blowing.Guest review byKimGermany
