Besigheim is a very attractive, ancient, fortified hill town situated on a ridge between two rivers (Necker and Enz). Two of the original guard towers and one of the gates survives. There are many half timbered buildings and many rendered buildings are half-timbered underneath The small market square has a very attractive Town Hall and fountain. At either end of the main street, up the ridge, are two halls for social events. The old church at the top of the ridge has a plain interior but a most elaborate carved wooden reredos.
