Boppard is a small town, right on the Rhine.
Boppard is a small town, right on the Rhine. There are plenty of hotels and restaurants, ice cream shops, retail shops etc. The station is very close to the centre of town so easy to get to other fantastic places. Easy to get to by car. The town is quiet in the winter but still most places are open. The chair lift is absolutely fabulous, and the views are superb. However, last time we went up on the chair lift, we couldn't get back down because the winds became a lot stronger, BUT they will order a taxi for you and refund you the return trip BUT GET A RECEIPT from the taxi because they won't refund you without it. Most hotels will give you a Guest Card which gives you discounts on local attractions, and FREE train and bus travel within quite a bit region, so you can visit Koblenz, Rudesheim, Linz, Limburg (all very highly recommended) for no extra cost.Guest review byBarbaraUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Boppard is a pretty town and small enough to be able to get...
Boppard is a pretty town and small enough to be able to get anywhere on foot. There are many bars and restaurants. The weather was hot during our visit, so we spent most evenings in the Ebertor Biergarten overlooking the Rhine. Food and drink there were good and reasonably priced. We also made several visits to the De Lorenzi Eiscafe. There are a lot of great and well marked walking trails (Traumschleifen) nearby - you can pick up printed copies of these at the Tourist Information in the town or online. The Sesselbahn cable car is a must for great views of the Rhine. Boppard is a great base from which to explore the Rhine Gorge. There are many castles to visit (we particularly enjoyed Marksburg) and many cruise lines stop at Boppard. We took the KD Nostalgie cruise to Bacharach (2 hours each way, with 3.5 hours for lunch and to explore Bacharach) and would thoroughly recommend this.Guest review byMichaelUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lovely town, English menu's in most restaurant's. Long flat promenade to walk along, English widely spoken, lots of restaurants and cafe's, but it felt that 90% were Pizza restaurants. I saw two banks, Volksbank & Sparkasse, Volksbank is on the Market Square 60 seconds from the promonade and has an ATM with English instructions. It also has non ATM machines, look for the one with the keypad. Some small businesses only accept cash so the ATM availability is important. Boat trips on the Rhine are available including an all day return trip to Rudesheim so you get to view the entire Rhine Gorge twice. The cable car costs 11 Euro's return, cash & cards accepted, it takes you to the viewing point for the definative River Rhine photo (see photo's). Boppard is a quaint town on the banks of the Rhine and is ideal as a base for exploring the villages and castles along the river. Boppard is a charming place and I have visited many times in the past. It is easy to reach via train from Frankfurt and a good base to explore further by train, Mainz, Cologne, Koblenz and Bonn are all within a 2 hour train ride. Unless you really want to you do not need to hire a car as there is plenty to see via public transport. It's an area which seems more popular with mainland European than UK travellers but it doesn't feel overcrowded or overly busy, it has an interesting centre with lots of nice cafes, ice cream parlours and independent shops. Along the riverfront are several excellent restaurants. The Roman remains are interesting and we spent our only wet afternoon at the museum, which was also interesting and free with the Guest card. The fact that the guest card entitles you to free public transport within the area is a huge bonus and we also made use of the discount on KD cruises with a trip back from Rüdesheim to Oberwesel and then back to Boppard on the train. 5 days to a week is the perfect length of time here and allows for some real relaxation as well as new things to see.Guest review byMenna.von.BarnhelmUnited Kingdom
