We booked this as a convienent stop-over and found a perfect place for any stay. And, you know, with a place to get some food. Just to find, wow, what food! For many, many years I have wondered about this German frenzie about ”Spagel!!” (white aspargus). I’ve even tried cocking it myself, to little revelation. Then comes ”zur Post” and now, at long lasr, we know: Spagel! And, having two different dishes (one with bechamel, one sith buttery potatoes, we’re still debating which one was the best. Oh… yes, we did stay the night in a lovely double room. Some early noisy traffic, but who cares, dreaming about aspargus. A final side note: inspired by zur Post, the next day, in Bernkastel, we ordered asparagus. And, well, ones that goes into my old book of ”Why Asparagus”. The answer hou will find in Holdorf… as long as the keep their great chef.

The staff made us feel part of the family; all very friendly and laid back. Our room was very spacious and airy and the whole hotel was new and fresh and super clean. Being a former monastery, the location is nice and quiet and our room overlooked a forest. The breakfast was copious and they even made waffles for us! The breakfast room later doubles up as a cozy cafe serving nice cakes. You can also sit outside in a pleasant courtyard. All in all, this rates as one of our best hotel experiences ever. Highly recommended.

This is a gem of a small boutique hotel in a beautiful country side location. The food at their restaurant was simply delicious and we enjoyed the friendly personnel and their dog friendly attitude. The breakfast was served in a very tasteful manner. Plentiful with a great variation of items. We also enjoyed the tasteful decor and interior design of the hotel and the beautiful garden restaurant.

    A great place for an overnight stop and much more!

    A great place for an overnight stop and much more! ADAC recovered our car to Holdorf from the motorway after overheating - it needed a new water pump. We ended up spending 3 nights in Holdorf while repairs were completed at Autohaus Schlarmann. The service we received from the garage and our accommodation at Hotel zur Post was superb. The town has 2 supermarkets, 3 filling stations, 2 banks and a good choice of restaurants, cafés and other shops. Just outside of town there’s a popular camp site with tennis courts and a recreational lake. If spending longer in the area, bikes can be rented and the area is flat and ideal for cycling with separate paths. Our favourite haunt was the ice cream salon just opposite the hotel with a range of unusual and tasty flavours. If you need a vet, Holdorf has one of those too. We are at the hotel restaurant and bought cakes and snacks from both branches of the Hartman bakeries, which open for breakfast service from 5am. Our original plan was to just have one overnight stop in Holdorf but our extended 3 night stay was very pleasant indeed. In fact, we couldn’t have chosen a better place to have a break down !
