It hasn't got much going for it apart from the location, but...
It hasn't got much going for it apart from the location, but that means it isn't overrun with tourists! The Rhein is the jewel and KD and other shipping lines run regularly both up and downstream. But take the ordinary bus to Sankt Goar for a fantastic trip up, up up with tremendous views and then set down in St. Goar in time for coffee. Terrific. Best way to travel there: train, but DB need to improve the station for accessibility. The DTicket gives you freedom to enjoy the local wines without one eye on a policeman! Oberwesel is a charming medieval town with roots tracing back to ancient Celtic settlements. Despite having all the essential amenities for travelers—including a train station, tourist information center, museum, and supermarkets—it remains surprisingly quiet and less crowded than it deserves to be. I spent a week there and experienced countless memorable moments: hiking up to the castle, strolling along the scenic Rhine River, exploring nearby towns, and enjoying a delicious Thai dinner at the Thai restaurant in Hotel Weiler Oberwesel, which serves genuinely impressive Thai cuisine. A highlight of my trip was a wine tasting and vineyard tour at Lanius-Knab, renowned for its Riesling. This is our second time to stay at the castle.
This is our second time to stay at the castle. You can not imagine how nice it was to bring our granddaughter and her husband with us. What a wonderful stay . Meals were excellent, the veranda seating was outstanding, food was so perfectly done and the staff was way beyond excellent. We asked for some changes in our menu and the senior waiter was on top of everything! We are old but if we could we will come again!Guest review byBanks - 10.0

We really enjoyed the medieval feel of the town. They were preparing for a medieval festival while we were there. Oberwesel has all the features of a typical historical town...
Oberwesel has all the features of a typical historical town along the Rhine river, but it is less busy than nearby Bacharach or Sankt Goar. The town itself could do with some more restaurants and cafés. The scenery is woinderful, with excellent hiking and walking trails (towards the Loreley, or towards Bacharach). If you look for a really quite place to stay, the villages in the hills above Oberwesel may be a good choice.Guest review byBartBelgium
