FAQs about hotels in Regensburg

A Bridge to the Past

Regensburg’s cobbled streets, colourful façades and step gables constitute Germany’s best-preserved medieval centre. A 12th-century stone bridge crosses the Danube River between the UNESCO World Heritage-listed old town and islands forming the Stadtamhof district.

Regensburg was an important trading centre and its wealthy merchants built tall towers, such as the Goldener Turm, to outdo each other. The dual spires of its Gothic cathedral tower over red roofs sheltering pavement cafes, traditional bierkellers and modern bars.

Niedermünster abbey also has square towers, while the Alte Kapelle’s most impressive feature is intricate gold interior detailing. Nearby Neupfarrplatz houses the annual Christmas markets, while the old town hall is on Kohlenmarkt. Just down the street a large David and Goliath mural adorns a house.

A plaque outside a more modest house marks Oskar Schindler’s former home. Much grander is Schloss Thurn and Taxis, an 8th-century monastery converted to a noble residence. At the eastern end of a park encircling the historic centre is a villa built for King Maximilian II of Bavaria, overlooking riverboats which cruise past a more outlandish royal creation – Donaustauf’s Walhalla monument, resembling a Greek temple.

Booking.com offers a great range of Regensburg accommodation including 4-star hotels with spas, cheap apartments and guest houses near the train station.

Lovely city to have a stop during my drive to a business meeting. City has nice architecture and the Donau river gives the extra touch. Enough possibilities to have a nice lunch and diner. Can recommend Burgerheart when you want some nice American experience. Loved the peer-melon limonade. Went now two year in a row to Regensburg and can't wait for the next one.

Overall, the city is beautiful and the river setting is wonderful. It's a great city for walking around. You can see it all in a day, but it's better to take your time. There is a lot of historical architecture, from Roman remains, through Medieval and Renaissance styles, up to classical revivalist architecture. The stone bridge, waterways and islands were like a small Prague. It's also a good starting point for the Walhalla and Befreiungshalle monuments, Weltenburg Abbey and various castle ruins. We were disappointed by the Schloss St. Emmeram because it is under major reconstruction and the very large park around it is strictly private with very few possibilities for architectural photography. Perhaps it was better and more suitable as a bishop's palace rather than a private residence. The sausage kitchen was rather overpriced and busy, but there are two limited takeaway options. You have to be careful about driving in the centre, as there is a zone where you need to pay for emissions. We did not know about it until we saw a guest review that mentioned it. If you come by car, you need to be aware of the location of the zone and your hotel to avoid a heavy fine.

Many cathedrals....but also many tourist due to the riverboat traffic. One day is sufficient. Definitely have lunch at the Wurstkuchl for grilled sausages and sauerkraut the oldest sausage kitchen in Bavaria.

Regensburg is a beautiful little town on the banks of the Danube. As a double UNESCO site, it has plenty of sites to visit. We enjoyed wandering around and exploring the town and shops. The restaurants were also delicious and provided authentic eats. We frequented local bakeries/cafes and had lunch at the oldest continuously open public restaurant, Historische Wurstküche. But our favorite spot for dinner was Hofbräuhaus, full of locals and delicious dishes.

An absolutely gorgeous city with great facilities, loads to do and see. Everything is so close together that it's easy to walk a lap of the old town in a day. There are boat trips down the Danube to Walhalla, which is definitely worth a visit (especially if you love walking up hundreds of steps). Great addition of a café at the top of the hill now as well! The Bavarian museum by the river has some really interesting exhibits. There are cafés galore. Some really nice restaurants for dining on any budget. There's also a bus tour that takes you around the old town and gives you some great insight into the history of the area. If you want to explore further afield there are also good transport links to spend a day in Munich, Nuremberg or even head down to Salzburg. At the end of a long day of exploring there are some lovely bars and ice cream parlours by the river where you can enjoy some light refreshment before bed. I've been to Regensburg about 10 times now and I've never had a bad time there. It's so welcoming and lovely that it very quickly starts to feel like a second home.

Regensburg is overall a nice city.

Regensburg is overall a nice city. The town centre and locations such as the Donau park are really nice to be. The train /bus station is a little dodgy but not any different to places like Vienna, Salzburg or Munich. Its easy to get around the city bus connections are frequent and on time. I would recommend doing a walking tour on the first day of arrival then you can get the insider tips about the city.

The room was clean and spacious, also the bathroom. The breakfast room was big enough and the food was good. The hotel is located in a quiet area about 6 km out the old town. Parking space was O.K. (we arrived around 2 p.m. and we were able to choose), but I noticed that in the evening was completely full (a lot of vans). There's also an underground garage, but we haven't checked it.
