Lovely medieval old town, very well preserved with few architectural sins. In springtime beautifully flowered, very clean despite the masses of visitors. Extraordinary city hall from the 16th century. Spectacular location on the Neckar river. Lots and lots of pubs and eateries, it is, after all, a student town. Try the restaurant "Forelle". I was there on a working trip at the university so I was only one day a tourist. It is a sweet little town with an AltStadt that escaped bombing in WW2, full of half-timbered buildings and a pleasure to walk around. I speak German so I was able to talk to people, took part in University activities. I was there in January so not much going on outdoors but the indoors university town culture was wonderful. There was a fun atmosphere as the muddy brown river was full of people boating, and bands playing on some boats. Crazy bright flowers everywhere. And the town square was more beautiful than expected, and we almost missed it, thinking the bridge area was the main attraction. Old town was very scenic and the authorities have gone to a lot of expense to make the town attractive. The flower displays were everywhere particularly on the Neckar bridge and very impressive.
