We only spent 1 full day in Madrid, at the end of our 2 week trip around NE region of Spain. We walked 10 miles through the city. The Puerto de Sol and Mayer squares/Gran Via area were VERY crowded the Saturday we were there (kind of like Times Square on New Years Eve!). Reina Sophia Museum was very nice and free for seniors! If you like city life, there were many, many restaurants in addition to upscale shopping. There were city festivities such as singing in the square. Madrid beyond our expectations. Clean vibrant and inviting. The architecture illustrated the amazing history of the city. It was so easy to navigate around the city travelling on the subway from the modern areas to the old quarter. We stayed within walking distance to the Prado Museum and enjoyed the surrounding area. Beautiful, elegant architecture. Plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars and bakeries in our area. Lots of public transportation options. Parking would be a hassle to find and the traffic is always bad so I wouldn't want to drive there. Taxis + Ubers are reasonable, all our drivers were great. It's a stunning city.
It's a stunning city. Beautiful architecture, parks, museums and a great night life. I had been there in 2014 for 7 days and had already seen most of the major sights. I was staying at Gran Via, so it was bustling and had a happy vibe. I had gone to Madrid to celebrate a Spanish friend's 60th birthday. She had guests at the event, from many parts of the world. Location is good, is in the financial center, close to airport and city center. We arrived in terminal 1, we took bus 200 to get to the hotel. Public transport in Madrid by default costs 1.5 EUR(and you can pay cash inside the bus). In order to get to the center we got the bus 53 infront of Cuco’s restaurant which is super close to the hotel and it was super easy to travel around. Highly recommended.
