It is a small city nearby the Barcelona or Sant Pol de Mar. The city center is nice, full of restaurants. I miss the street food a little bit. The life starts here around 7 AM. The city is full of playgrounds, it is good for families with children. We appreciate that. Beaches are beautiful and empty. Not so many tourists here as in Barcelona. Peaceful city. expect a siesta! :-) from approx. 2 to 7:00 p.m., almost all restaurants and shops are closed. Life here starts around 19:00. It was more difficult with small children, when they go to bed at 8 in the evening and are used to having dinner at 5:30 pm ;) But the city center is very nice, food is super tasty. Lovely area just outside of BCN, access to BCN is easy via a 40min bus OR 35min train journey. Train station in Mataro with the train running up and down the coast. Plenty of places to eat/drink on and off the beach. Not man shops, mostly boutiques however there is a large shopping mall 1hr walk (nice easy walk) OR a easy bus journey. Mataro is one of those little towns, through Mediterraneo, its access from and to the airport from R1 - transferred to R2 you can do it in a good time planned and reliable when you need to catch a plane in Terminal One. The access to check-in is straight to terminal 2 need an internal bus to T1.
