A historical charm in the north of Spain
The historical, charming and laid-back town of Oviedo is located in the Asturias region. It is home to an array of landmarks with a mix of Baroque, Romenesque, Renaissance and Gothic architecture, some dating back to between the 9th - 16th centuries.
This is evident in landmarks such as the characteristic Oviedo Cathedral and its UNESCO World Heritage Site, Holy chamber of Oviedo.

Very nice city. It isn't big and can be walked through. All districts that we visited were tidy, with good architecture and style. Really beautiful streets and architecture, traditional and modern at the same time. Recommend to visit: - San Francisco (central) park - not big, but proposes a good walk. - Catedral de San Salvador - it brings impression. Also nice walking around through older streets, whose squares are the centers of evening entertainment. - Oviedo Congress and Exhibitions Center - very impressive with its size and design. I was shocked encountering such a stylish giant in a city that small. - Sacred Heart of Jesus Monument - the monument itself is nice, but mostly interesting (at least for me) for its amazing view - the whole city can be observed from here, mountain views, your site can even reach the ocean and Gijon. Also there are several points of interest nearby moving back to the city. If you travel with a child, the playgrounds are also fine here. I read about Oviedo in a British newspaper.
I read about Oviedo in a British newspaper. It is in an area of Northern Spain that is rich in history and architecture but is not frequented by tourist from abroad. Not many spoke English, but that is a good thing, showing that the area is not primarily populated by local residents. I particularly enjoyed visiting the Cathedral, Archaeological Museum, Art Museum and a ninth century church. If you haven't explored Asturias give it a go, but you will have problems if you don't speak Spanish. I am fluent but because there aren't many tourists everyone gives you an up-and-down look and anticipates you being a guiri. Then, when you surprise them by speaking Spanish, they act like the French do and answer you by saying "OK". Well this is true for much of Spain, but the beauty of the Asturian countryside and architecture, the temperate climate, the great local train system (cercanias) and more or less cheap prices (except in July/August) make it worthwhile.Guest review byRICHARDUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Nice town with good infrastructure. Safe and quiet. With lots of restaurants and a fairly large pedestrian centre. The city is built for pedestrians, with ramps and prams everywhere. The facades of historic buildings have been restored or are being restored. It can be seen that the municipality keeps an eye on the condition of the city.
