Cathedral is 'mandatory' (pre-book) Main shopping streets are great but wander off to right and left for a more authentic experience. The Hotel St Francis rooftop bar is magical at night. Open to non residents in the evening if you can cope with the Instagramers. What a great city - the cathedral is spectacular -it is easy to get around (we hired bikes). Easy access by walking and the old town is gorgeous - full of little, squares and intriguing little roads. The island is somehow harvey doubleface: on the one side, the horrible magaluf or ratjada beer and sun binge meccas, on the other side, the highly historic palma or alcudia, the prehistoric sites at record density. The "cala" beaches scattered almost all around the island are a dream... when you manage to escape the crowds. Yeah, the ranson of iconicness... You can escape it by visiting them early in the morning, or outside the top of season, which alas extends deep in september, before October is abruptly exposed to "mediterranean episodes" of catastrophic rainstorms. We visited the island mostly on foot and taking buses/taxis, and it was quite efficient and cheap. It allowed us to see what you would skip with a rental car. We could have stayed longer. PS: what we hated: locals are pigs considering the dog shit smearing most of the streets and the tons of plastic refuse thrown by drivers and passers by on the side of streets and basically everywhere there are human flows.
