This is a very fine hotel by its location, by its entire staffs, by its services BUT it could do with a GOOD restaurant: they will serve food of a limited range so we ventured out into a world of tourist quality service and industrial foods masquerading as Spanish high cuisine. A truly lovely city of scenic value slowly going the way of ,say, Venice with high volumes of tourists demanding cheap, and often poor quality foods. The plaza mayor with its arcade shops and tiered residences has become a noisey and nasty tourists hangout with no nice quality shops, or restaurants, this city is too nice to allow further deterioration of this sort letting down the good hotels: palacio de castelano & hospes de Estaban. It's very good to see a strong smart police force always present and very good mannered driving where the pedestrian is considered the important road user, not the flashy car.

Perfect location, close to the train station(La Alamedilla), city center, and Carrefour supermarket, convenient for both travel and shopping. The virtual key makes it very convenient to open the hotel and room doors. The hotel front desk staff helped us receive the delivery and were very friendly.

An Ancient University Town with Fascinating Culture

In the south-west corner of Castile and Leon, the Spanish city of Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old City is one of the most beautiful Renaissance cities in Europe.

Situated next to the border with Portugal, Salamanca has unique architecture including Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. The Old Cathedral dates from the 12th-13th centuries and joined together with the 16th-century New Cathedral.

One of the most charming squares in Spain, Plaza Mayor is the heart of Salamanca and an excellent example of Baroque architecture. Enjoy a walk around the exterior terraces, savour an ice cream or relax in one of the picturesque restaurants.

Founded by King Alfonso IX in 1218, the University of Salamanca has more than 3,500 international students and teachers. Known for its Spanish courses for non-native speakers, the university houses a huge library with more than 150,000 invaluable volumes.

    Salamanca is a beautiful place.

    Salamanca is a beautiful place. There are many historic buildings worth a visit but the town still feels authentic. A weekend stay is ideal - we saw so many family events in the Plaza Mayor and in the churches that delighted us. The university building and the art nouveau museum were highlights for us. A walk by the river and a rest in the park by the city walls are a must. We loved Vinodiario for dinner and Palacio de Castellanos for terrace drinks and lunch

    A beautiful and historic old city - so much to see (especially at night, when the impressive cathedral and surrounding buildings are lit-up.) We only stayed one night, and will now plan to return to enjoy it further.

    I had visited very briefly while I was a child and always wanted to go back. It was better that I remembered. The historical buildings, cathedral, university, Casa de las Conchas, or the surprising Art Deco Museum, were great - and what to say about Iberico ham! If you have the opportunity to visit the nearby factory do not hesitate - you will learn why the ham deserves the high price you pay for it! I didn't have the chance to visit nature areas around due to the wild fires, so I hope I will return in a no so distant future.

    The location was just perfect, just across the river from the center. The manager was a great guy, gave me a lot of good tips on what to visit locally but also throughout Spain. I got a 3 room apartment, nice bathroom, good kitchen with everything. The underground parking was also very useful

    Good value for money if you are only looking for a stop over motor inn. If you don't drive, it is about 4km walk to the center of the city. Food is reasonably priced. Car park is free (hard to find such a deal in Spain) right in front of the hotel.
