Small Mediterranean coastal town in the Cabo de Gata National Park. Very attractive location with beautiful beaches and good bars and restaurants. However, we have only visited the town out of season (usually over Christmas) when it is very quiet, but by no means dead. San Jose (out of season, as we've not visited in summer) is a delightful, low rise, old-fashioned looking place yet with some great (modern) restaurants, bars and cafes. I hope it remains as under developed as it is as it is a total gem on this built up coast. The Cabo de Gata natural park is simply stunning - if you have a car and drive 15 minutes west to the beaches out of town, you will be rewarded with long stretches of almost empty beaches (again out of season) backed by stunning agave plants and rock formations. truly unique and beautiful - long may it continue as a relatively unspoiled beauty spot.Guest review byCatherineUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We love San Jose. It's just gorgeous.
We love San Jose. It's just gorgeous. The only down side is that it's not easy to get to nearby places by public transport. It's easy enough to get from Almeria to San Jose though abd tge buses are comfy and reliable. Check out Bar Monsul. Great fun and good value for money. We were where Sergio Leone made the clou scenes of "A Fistful of Dollars" with Clint Eastwood ((in the nice hall you can hear something of a western film).Close to the structure you can also ride horses.
