Plenty of gift shops and restaurants and some interesting, historical buildings/museums all within the town. The main central area has cobbled streets so can be a little hard/difficult underfoot. All the parking areas seemed to be very busy and plenty of people about. There was an open-air Mariachi band concert on one of the nights which was fab. The town is also well placed to get to the beaches at Suances and Comillas, both of which were fantastic towns. Also close to the motorway to get a little further into the mountains if you want to do that. The town was very busy, all of the restaurants had the same menu except for a few, unfortunately the ones that were different were all fully booked. We eventually had to pick a restaurant (or go hungry as there are no shops and had to wait outside for well over an hour for our food, when it came it was disappointing to say the least, and was way overpriced for the level of quality. Quaint small town with medieval properties. Less than 30 minute drive to the ferry port at Santander. This is our second stop over on the way to Santander. If you are a Medieval history fan, you will love this place, Exceptionally well-maintained historic city with surprisingly wide, stone streets. As the streets are paved with roundish stones, wear good shoes...flat-bottomed sport or dress shoes can be treacherous especially if street is wet. We visited during off-season (late-November) so many of the restaurants were closed at the time so plan accordingly. We did find one that was open and enjoyed authentic northern-Spain fare. Service excellent, friendly and welcoming. Pool looked beautiful, although didn't use personally. Visit into nearby Santillana del Mar and then to Comillas for the gorgeous beach 15 mins away (recommended by hotel staff) absolutely worth spending time! Evening meal and breakfast great with excellent service. Wish we could have spent more time there.
