You must go up here as completely different to the coastal resorts. We loved it and had amazing weather and locals very friendly. We treated two lovely old ladies to there dinner. We wanted a base, away from the very touristy south coast...
We wanted a base, away from the very touristy south coast resorts, that would enable us to explore the island's mountains, and its historical and cultural attractions by hire car. Vega de San Mateo turned out to be a delightful hill town, which was big enough to provide everything we needed (such as two big supermarkets, interesting shops, restaurants and bars).
