I can't really review the La Porte Angevine as I never got to stay there. Having booked 2 rooms for one Saturday night in July '25 we arrived at 15:45 to find the hotel, restaurant and bar all closed with apparently no one on site. However, the hotel had informed me that check in closed at 15:00. I had seen this a day prior and messaged the hotel to say I would not be arriving till around 16:00. I received a reply which was simply... You have a new message from La Porte Angevine Here's what they had to say: Refusé We did try to get there before 15:00 but it wasn't possible with traffic and the distance we had to travel. So, it's my own fault. The hotel made it clear the reception shuts at 15:00 and I arrived an hour late. Finally, the hotel marked me as a no show but have waived all charges. In case you're wondering, what did we do? Did we find alternative accomodation? No, there was none to be found. We carried on to Caen and got the night ferry back to Portsmouth.

Such an amazing clean beautiful home. Had everything you would need. Really comfy beds, huge room, great shower. Plenty of plug sockets. All on the ground floor so no stairs to climb. Wonderful views from the windows. Super great Wi-Fi. Easy to find via Sat nav & very easy to find. The hosts were so nice I wish I could’ve stayed longer & will definitely return.

The owners made us feel very welcome. They prepared for us a wonderful dishes with vegetables straight from their garden.

A great location in the centre of town, yet still very easy to drive to with plenty of off street free parking on site, and a short walk to the train station. Very friendly English speaking staff. The buffet breakfast was very good with a selection of cold meats, cheeses, boiled eggs (soft or hard), fruit, yoghurt and a wide array of delicious pastries and breads. The Newtown Brasserie next door is a fabulous place to eat, with something for everyone Good WiFi

I was late due to work related issues and asked to have a plate in my room for a late dinner and the staff was very cooperative. They also gave me a keycode for late access at the hotel.

Room no. 305 was not in the castle, but it was very spacious and well-equipped. It was important that there was air conditioning when it was +38°C outside. The food was very delicious.
